Visitors’ Moorings
The annually updated (usually in April) booklet 'Welcome Anchorages' lists mooring facilities on the coasts of Scotland and the north of Ireland. It is freely available at boat shows, from marinas and chandleries and online at welcome-anchorages.co.uk. ‘Welcome Anchorages’ lists harbours, pontoons, marinas, visitor moorings as well as anchorages. It includes information about facilities available at each location as well as useful contact details. There are also detailed notes about Scottish canals and suggestions for cruise routes.
As well as facilities for visitors, there are many private moorings around the coast. You should not use private moorings without permission. They may not be in a safe condition or strong enough for your vessel; the resident craft may return at any time. Even if permission is given, you use any mooring at your own risk.
