Scalasaig, Colonsay anchorage

After incidents in 2021 where yachts anchored close to the Anchor symbol on the Admiralty chart of the approach to Scalasaig pier, Colonsay, there have been discussions between CMAL Ports and Harbours, CalMac Ferries, RYAS and Colonsay Community. These yachts severely impeded the approach of ferries to the berth.
It was agreed that the Hydrographic Office would be asked to move the Anchor symbol on Admiralty charts 1.2 cables north of its current position.

In certain wind conditions, ferries may have to overshoot the pierhead to the west, it was also agreed that anchoring immediately north of the pier would be discouraged. The repairs to the pier itself should be complete soon and the wave boarded berth on the pier will then be restored to use.

Colonsay Community expressed the hope that CMAL Ports and harbours would consider laying visitor moorings to the north of the pier and inshore of the proposed new Admiralty anchorage. They undertook to examine this.

The CCC have been informed and an amended entry will appear in the corrections and next edition of the Pilot Book.
